On Sunday, March 11th, 23 alumni and friends volunteered at Clark University in Worcester at the basketball portion of the Special Olympics Winter Games. They served as both score keepers and team escorts. The volunteers also cheered on the athletes as they received medals from members of the Coast Guard. During one game all of the members stopped play on their own in order to let an athlete shoot and kept giving him the ball back until he got a basket. As the referee ran past the score keepers he said “that was a Special Olympics moment. That is what it is all about.” It was a very motivational day for everyone in attendance. Everyone walked away with new friends, new memories, and a new source of inspiration.
